Artefact Journal
Everything has its place, & a place for everything…
The Artefact Journal is no exception, it has been created for the sole purpose of being a dedicated recording aid to the recovered items, no matter whether you are a detectorist, digging up artefacts in a field with a Metal Detector, or participating in another form of Treasure Hunting such as dump digging, magnet fishing & even gold prospecting, etc…
Every item can be recorded, & given a trackable number, from the findspot to the book, into the cabinet & vice versa…

Field Diary
Any personal diary, written in any language is a private journal of thoughts, but in this diary, do not restrict yourself to just words, use the universal language of art, be it a line drawing with a pen or pencil, detailed artwork or even stick drawing which I tend to do, remember to keep this an open work, in so much of the fact this is a Field Diary and should reflect your feelings, & thoughts on the day’s events… Words come in many languages, any diary is a personal essay of one’s feelings, & encounters of the day, but remember you are not restricted to words, even if you just doodle, make it yours… Like any diary, it is about the author writing a personal account of the day’s events…

Artefact Journal & Field Diary
Put the two pages together & you have a conveniently grouped pair of pages, to help create an easy-to-use recording journal, with its own unique system, helping to keep the day’s findings all grouped together, with the diary to keep notes & help you to remember the day’s events, sights & sounds… This is no different to any other diary page, except it is conveniently placed within a dedicated book, for easy access, tying all the loose ends together…

Welcome to the future of recording your finds…
Let me give you a brief introduction to the Artefact Journal, as this is the future of recording your finds, along with your own individual perspective being written into the Field Diary, this could be the sights and sounds you encounter along the way, or literally anything that you think off, because everything that goes into the mix of making these books, helps create a unique & personal Journey…
If as they say, knowledge is the key to power, then the Artefact Journal & Field Diary will give you that knowledge in a reflective history at your fingertips for many years to come, as you can keep track of the artefacts from different fields, farms, dig sites rally’s, private invites etc…

I personally will not write a book of national importance, & although you or I might not set the world alight with our literary skills, what we can offer though is a historical insight into the locality we dig, i believe that we will be writing a book of local interest & significance’s, about the highs and lows of being out in the field, as you find another artefact, whether it’s broken or whole, as your story unfolds about every item you find, it is only one more piece of a giant jigsaw puzzle…

A jigsaw so vast, that in our lifetime we will never complete the entire picture, so whether it is local permission or from further afield, at a rally, discarded items, a treasured item lost, genuine losses, or deliberately buried items, these all start to paint the picture of how our ancestors worked, played and even fought over our search sites…
I have built the Artefact Journal & Field Diary, a lot different to all the other books out there on the same subject, to make any book functional it has to be designed to work…
All of the same features of the previous versions of the Artefact Journal & Field Diary are featured here, the front & back covers are 320 high gloss, which is protected with a “wipe clean” clear acetate sheet, to keep all but the worst of them sticky fingerprints out…
One of the major changes outside has been to change the plastic coil, this has been changed back to the “wiro metal coil” Although the plastic coil worked brilliant, we felt this workbook “worked” better with the metal coil, as the metal coil closes “better by design onto itself” (-whereas the plastic coil, when attached to the pages, “appeared” to be able to slip off the paper… { only time will tell, we might revert back }-)
Although the plastic coil opens and closes quietly the metal coil is a bit noisier, but both the plastic and metal coils allow for the workbook to function as it should when in use, as a workbook the Artefact Journal & Field Diary can be opened out, with both pages facing you perfectly flat, whereas if the book was “perfectly bound” you would need to break its spine, to be able to get the book to lie flat enough to write in…
We have brought the price of the book down, not only due to the quantity that we have ordered, but after talking to the publishers, & without compromising the original idea and quality, we have reached an agreement whereas the new books can be retailed for £ 16.95p free pp
As stated to those who have purchased the books at the original price, this was an ongoing conversation with the publishers & you should have received your discount voucher by now, and it is open-ended, with no time limit on the redemption, all you need is your unique code, so either staple the letter onto the “purple” purchase page, with the code showing or write it into your existing journal on your notes page, so if you lose or mislay the letter with the code or cannot find the email you will always have the code & it can be matched at our end…

never forget where an artefact or coin came from with the Artefact Journal & Field Diary

As stated, the new cost of the book is £ 16.95p, this is our optimum price, which we have been trying to achieve for four years, with no cost for PP …
Quote Fred, if you require a credit card size coin / artefact photo scale, to be sent with your new book, we have a few left, and won’t be getting any more, these fit nicely into your field wallet because of their size of a credit card, or to purchase separately the cost with postage is £2.50p…

There are many self-published artefact recording books on various websites, but all are, without exception, just lines on a piece of paper. Here is a completely different approach to recording your finds and your own journey on how and where they were found.
With the Artefact Journal & Field Diary, you are the author writing your own book, & creating your own story, with memories and find spots kept together on the same page, allowing you to keep an account of your Metal Detecting journey…
The purpose of any Journal / Diary is to create a reminder of the past, the Artefact Journal & Field Diary is no exception, it allows you to record your finds and enter the day’s events, with additional reminders built into the Field Diary section, creating a book of your own personal journey of Metal Detecting & saving England’s lost History…

New book, for a new life, well, the book is not going to make me retire early, if anything, I’ve just increased my workload…

Soft Launch…
So, what is it and when is the launch ? Well, the launch date is a bit flat, as it is already out there… But when i have more than the pre-print copies, IE the first batch, then it will be officially launched, maybe on the first of May, which seems a good date, i wanted 2-3-4 as the original date, but we are just going past that with the first delivery… (- for those who don’t know 2-3-4 actually stands for 23rd April, which is St. Georges Day, whos the Patron Saint of England -)

So what does it look like… Well, the first thing, it is not a pocket version, despite part of the title being Field Diary, as it is an A4 size, with a gloss front & rear cover, and a clear Acetate Sheet, giving the front & back covers some protection from sticky fingers…
On the pre-proof book, it has a grey cover with a book-entry at the bottom of the page, in my infinite wisdom i thought Book would look and sound better, well it sounds better in your head when looking for reference numbers, but it looks terrible & naff, so that has changed back to volume, the grey front cover & rear cover is now coloured green, with the wording complementing the whole covers with a darker shade of green…
Just to clarify, the original front & back cover of the single-page Artefact Journal & Field Diary, was Orange, but as this new book is now, a double-page entry, we decided on the new colour, as this book has expanded, & been updated, with new internals, whilst the old single version is being transformed into the new format, & when released it will retain its Orange colour, as will the single A4 Folder Version, which the last few remaining pages have all but gone…

Instead of binding this book as “perfect bound” which means that it has a glued spine which is then covered in paper, which seems to be the chosen route everyone else goes down, i have chosen to bind my book in “coil bound” which allows the book to be laid flat, & as this is a workbook it does seem logical to have chosen this route… If you have ever tried writing in a book that wants to keep rising in the middle the first thing you do is break its spine, this, in turn, breaks the glue binding it all together, and soon it will start to lose its shape, and later the pages start to move & as you shuffle them back in place you are weakening them further, & before long they start to fall out, so by choosing a coil bound book, it should be able to withstand a lot more abuse than a book bound with glue, we had originally chosen to use a wiro-coil, which is a metal coil instead of plastic, but the plastic binding won the day as it can be kept clean & is less harsh on the paper, r later books, for the foreseeable future…

I have copyrighted this work from start to finish, with most of the content being started over fifty years ago, but, now this is the big but, no one has come anywhere close to my method, perhaps because it is so simple, that people try to overthink the obvious whereas this starts and ends at the obvious… it has been called a system by those that are using it, but there is no system to it, you can use as much or as little of the book as you want, but by utilizing the complete content, within a month of use, if you have been going out once a week, already a picture of the jigsaw would already have become apparent…

We chose a well-known copyright company for Authors and artisans alike, who reassured us and have kept doing so that our work is protected worldwide. I’ve had so many of my ideas taken from me. People have exploited the ideas, & me, mainly it’s because i have had a lack of funds, but this one, I’ve tried my best to keep it a well-known secret; it has been protected since the 1970s, without me knowing it. Still, now legally i have the law on my side, ok, it costs a yearly subscription, but hey, nothing is free…
